SPACE AND COMMUNITY

Social Cultural Space Tetova is a community of independent people who interact, create and cultivate the natural human culture of functioning in equality. This developing community is focused on creating new standards and norms of collective functioning, which resonate with the needs of the times and the surrounding environment.

On a completely voluntary basis, new and avant-garde events and ideas are created and maintained there, which are always put into service of the society of the ‘space’ and beyond. Public events have an educational and instructive purpose, and in some cases they also represent creative forms of protest, but there is certainly no lack of entertainment in a society very open to diversity.

The essence of every activity is volunteer work, born from the desire to contribute on behalf of the community and accept others as equal collaborators.

Retrospective

The space is the product of the tireless volunteer work of the active group that maintains it, but whose genesis comes from a spontaneous visit to the center with a similar character in Pristina, ‘Termokiss’, in August 2016, when this center was founded. From there, the first encouragements and contact with the autonomous Belgian collective ‘Toestand’ begin, who, with similar projects aimed at ‘revitalizing unused and abandoned public spaces’, create new spaces almost every year throughout…

The tireless work of these two groups during July 2018, assisted by local volunteers and supported by the DemocracyLab organization and the Municipality of Tetovo, was rewarded with two new spaces, until then unused and forgotten for almost a decade. Tetovo, in addition to the ‘socio-cultural space’, also gained the only Skate Park (Skatova) the city has ever seen.

After completing the first phase of the facility's revival, volunteers enthusiastically continued to revitalize and maintain the facility, while in 2020-2021, by applying to the UNDP project, they obtained funds from the Swiss Embassy and renovated the former Radio Tetova facility for the second time, turning it from a facility neglected for years into a fully functional facility that attracted not only lovers of the space but also the municipal administration, who in the fall of 2022 occupied the space in November 2022 with slander, intrigue and violence. But this could not stop the community's activity and with the help of our friends from EED, our journey continues further inSpace 2.0 until the liberation of our space in the near future. Space 2.0

Space 2.0 comes as a continuation of the initial project of the voluntary revival and maintenance of the Social Cultural Space Tetova in the Radio Tetova building, turning a private space into a public one to accommodate the socio-cultural needs that the violent occupation of the space by the municipal administration created for the city.

Like Space 2.0, the continuation in the new Space 03 facility is a continuation of the initial project of the revival and voluntary maintenance of the Social Cultural Space Tetova in the Radio Tetova facility.
